How do u train a puppy not to beg for food?
I have a jindo and hes 120 days old, we started giving him foods that we eat, but now we heard from a relative not to feed those things to him, so we started trying this but even if we dont give him any he still begs for food and will not eat its own, So im scared that he will starve, please help how do i stop him from doing this?
I am a qualified trainer and my personal dog is a Jindo.
First, do not listen to the uneducated people that said put pennies in a soda can and shake it at a 4 month old puppy. These people know absolutely nothing about dog training and about building a strong bond with your puppy. Scaring your dog into stopping bad behavior is not how you want to start your relationship with your puppy. People that practice this are the same people that roll up newspapers to hit their dog on the butt or rub a puppies nose in the carpet and scream at it when it pees on the carpet. IN OTHER WORDS, people too lazy to learn how to train a dog properly.
Secondly, a puppy especially at 4 months gets fed three times a day to maximize growth, you do not move to two feedings until one year of age. Just make sure to follow proper feeding guidelines per meal, which is different for every breed.
You need to put your dog on a consistent eating schedule. Then you must allow only a certain amount of time for the puppy to eat, then remove the food, even if the puppy hasn’t eaten. Never leave food out all day for a dog to pick at. You want to develop resource importance.
When you eat, which is always before your dog, place the puppy in a crate, but be in view of your puppy. This sends out a clear message that you are the pack leader. After you have finished you can feed your puppy.
In your scenario to get your puppy to stop begging and motivated to eat its own food you need to gradually work your way back to a proper feeding ritual.
You need to find at least two different high quality brands of kibble that your puppy likes. Rotate these kibbles on each feeding. My Jindo grew up on raw meat and the following kibble brands which I also recommend to clients with much success.

To get this puppy back on track you need to make the food more exciting. Purchase 70% lean hamburger meat and thoroughly mix 5 oz. of raw meat with a 3/4 cup of high quality kibble. NO your puppy will not get sick from the raw food. Freeze the unused hamburger and thaw as needed.
Now, anytime you eat you keep your puppies mixture of food at your table while you eat, when you are finished eating take your puppies food go to the crate and let your puppy out, make him sit and place the food down. From my experience your puppy will eat. You can also substitute hamburger with raw or cooked chicken and turkey. If you are looking just to feed your dog kibble, which I do not recommend personally, you can gradually reduce the amount of meat over time till there is only kibble. I actually graduate an adult dog to a complete raw diet.
The best way to stop the begging is to keep your puppy out of those exact situations that encourage the begging. You will need to keep this puppy in the crate while you eat for quite some time to break the bad habit you have created. This puppy should only be granted freedom during your meals, after this puppy has a clear understanding of basic obedience commands, like, SIT, STAY and DOWN and is eating from its own bowl regularly. Over time, with the use of crate training during your meals and the consistent feeding habits you will have desensitized the desire to beg.
